5 Days of Freedom in a Rental Car
Have you ever woken up in the morning, closed your eyes and thought: "What if I left right now?" That's how my five days of true freedom began - in a rental car, without plans, just a GPS and coffee in a thermos.
Day 1: Drive to nowhere
I booked a car in 15 minutes through the app. I left the office, got behind the wheel - and here I am, racing along the highway, far from the noisy city. No business, just music, the road and freedom.
Comparison: Rental vs. Personal Car
| Criteria | Rented Car | Personal Car |
|---|---|---|
| Maintenance Costs | Included in Price | Pay Yourself |
| Insurance | Automatically Issued | Needs to Renew |
| Freedom of Choice | Can Change Car Every Time | Same Car |
| Depends on Condition auto | If it breaks down, they'll replace it | Repair at your own expense |
Day 1 evening: Lake Okeechobee, tent and stars
I pitched a tent and that night saw the Milky Way for the first time in a long time. Rented car became my little home on wheels.
Comparison: Car vs. Train/Bus
| Parameter | Rented car | Train / Bus |
|---|---|---|
| Route | You choose yourself | Fixed |
| Flexibility | You can stop anywhere | Depend on the schedule |
| Comfort | Air conditioning, music, solitude | Crowd, noise, minimum amenities |
| Impressions | Maximum freedom and spontaneity | Minimum emotions |
Day 2: Floating ghost town
I drove to Biscayne Bay and reached Stiltsville — mysterious houses on stilts. Each house stood just above the water, like guests from another world. The wind rustled, the waves beat quietly, and it seemed that here you can meet the shadows of the forgotten past. The atmosphere was mysterious and hung over the water like a memory.
Day 3: Traces of the past — Frog City
I left the Tamiami Trail and came across Frog City — once a restaurant and a tiny settlement, now — only an old sign and silence. I could almost imagine the old visitors eating frog legs here before they forgot about the place. It's a weird, creepy feeling: you're here, but the city is gone.
Day 4: Rustic Monument - Miami Marine Stadium
I stopped by the abandoned Miami Marine Stadium: the concrete stands disappear into graffiti, the deserted corridors resemble a post-apocalyptic movie set. The wind carried the echo of previous races, and it seemed as if the crowd was still somewhere nearby. Admiring the chaos, I thought: even ruins are an arena of emotions.
Final: Return
On the fifth day, I returned the car to the company parking lot. No regret, no fatigue - just a feeling that I lived a small life in a few days. And most importantly, I realized that a journey begins not with a ticket, but with a desire.
The Last Day: Streets of Miami
I found myself in the heart of Miami. The rented car deftly maneuvered between the palm trees and street cafes of Little Havana. In the morning, I drank coffee on the shore, watching the city wake up. Along the way, I met an artist from Argentina — together we explored the graffiti district of Wynwood, joked, and shared travel stories.
